About James
James assists public and private sector clients to avoid, strategically manage and resolve construction and infrastructure disputes.
When projects are on foot, he helps clients devise and implement strategies to secure improved delivery outcomes.
When disputes arise, James represents clients in all forms of dispute resolution, including litigation, arbitration, expert determination and adjudication under Security of Payment legislation.
He has acted in disputes on major projects throughout Australia and the Asia-Pacific, including in the transport (roads, tunnels, bridges, rail), resources (LNG, coal, renewables), infrastructure (ports, pipelines, electricity assets), health, education and commercial construction sectors.
James holds a Master of Laws with a specialist construction law focus. He is a member of the Society of Construction Law Australia and has mentored emerging industry professionals as part of its mentoring program.

Acting in complex proceedings before the Supreme Court and Court of Appeal involving allegations of defects as well as latent condition, variation and delay claims.
New South Wales University
Advising in relation to the delivery of education facilities and the strategic management of claims, including the negotiation of side agreements to permit the early use of facilities under construction.
Global Mining Company
Defending Federal Court proceedings arising from the construction of a reclaim tunnel and coal handling and preparation infrastructure.
Domestic and international arbitrations
Acting in confidential domestic and international arbitrations for owner and major contractor clients relating to Australian and offshore projects (including projects in Papua New Guinea and South East Asia).
