AGL Tomago Battery Project
McCullough Roberston’s Project Approvals and Real Estate teams have supported AGL to successfully obtain planning approval for the Tomago Battery Project in NSW.
The Tomago project will be one of the biggest batteries in NSW with 500 megawatt (MW) capacity and the ability to power 200,000 homes during peak demand periods. The project will play an important role in improving the reliability of the grid and the energy supply within the Hunter-Central Coast Renewable Energy Zone (REZ).
Generating 200 jobs during construction and providing approximately $2.2 million to Port Stephens Council for community improvement projects, AGL’s Tomago project seeks to benefit the local community.
McCullough Robertson advised on the planning approval pathways and environmental assessment processes for the development of the project, including land access issues and regulatory requirements. This involved identification of solutions to manage risks associated with traffic and road upgrade interactions, biodiversity, cultural heritage, water, noise, visual, hazard, land use conflicts and cumulative impacts.
Congratulations to AGL on this milestone, not only for the Tomago project itself, but also for AGL’s ambition to add 12 GW of renewables and firming to its portfolio by 2035.
