Lawyers help job hopefuls suit up for success
Every week for six months Raymond applied for dozens of horticulture and aged care jobs. Each rejection was a tremendous knock to his confidence, to the point where he would rarely leave the house.
Brisbane based nonprofit organisation Suited to Success helped Raymond recover his long-lost confidence, providing him with a stylist and a sharp-looking suit. It was the boost Raymond needed. He now attends interviews feeling good about himself and able to put his best foot forward.
Partners and staff at McCullough Robertson Lawyers have helped hundreds of women and men like Raymond, generously donating more than 330 items of corporate clothing to Suited to Success during the month of October.
McCullough Robertson Chief Operating Officer Kim Trajer said the firm’s Community Partnership Program called for donations of unwanted work attire across its Brisbane and Sydney offices, encouraging its 380 Partners and staff to embark on a ‘spring cleanout’.
“We have been overwhelmed by the generosity and goodwill shown by our people”, said Ms Trajer.
“We’ve received suits, dresses, business shirts and blouses, knitwear, belts, ties, shoes and handbags, many of which are of high quality and hardly been worn.
“I think most of us can recall the difficulties associated with starting out in the corporate world, particularly the expectation to ‘look the part’ which often requires a certain level of confidence and resources.
“We have a strong community focus in our organisation and enjoy the opportunity to share our talents, time and resources with those who need it most”.
McCullough Robertson has a long-term partnership with Suited to Success, which commenced operations in 2008 to help people from all walks of life gain meaningful, lasting employment.
The community-based organisation relies on financial donations, volunteer resources and support from the community to help people on their journey towards career and personal development.
Suited to Success also manages the global women’s not-for-profit organisation Dress for Success® Brisbane.
