Widely recognised for his extensive resources sector knowledge and understanding of government oversight of the industry, Michael joined the firm following 11 years as Chief Executive of the Queensland Resources Council, the peak industry body for the minerals and energy sector in Queensland.
Michael’s industry understanding, commercial focus and strong business networks assists a broad range of clients ranging from coal, gas and minerals producers and developers, regulatory government departments, to resource sector suppliers including government owned corporations.
Working with our large Resources and Renewables team, Michael provides non-legal strategic input to a broad range of areas including advising on acquisitions and disposals, capital markets, climate change, construction, and corporate advisory. He also advises on energy, foreign investment, insurance and risk, mergers and acquisitions, planning and environment, projects and infrastructure, and workplace relations and safety.
Prior to his time as head of the resources sector’s peak body, Michael spent nine years as a senior executive at the ASX and 16 years as a senior executive in the State and Federal Government sectors. Further, time spent as a Chief Economist has provided Michael with hands-on understanding of broad commercial issues.
