Newcastle Herald profiles our own Kate Swain

Last month McCullough Robertson Senior Associate Kate Swain, was recognised for her passion and intimate knowledge of the mining industry, taking home the NSW Minerals Council Young Achievers Award.

Kate is a planning and environment lawyer based in McCullough Robertson’s Newcastle office. She advises major resources companies on a broad range of complex matters including mining and petroleum tenements, planning approvals, pollution, native title, biodiversity conservation, water and land access.

The judges were impressed by Kate’s understanding of the implications of the law ‘on the ground’, developed throughout her previous onsite roles with BHP and Rio Tinto. This hands on experience enables Kate to appreciate the issues facing her resources clients and provide practical and commercial advice.

This week the Newcastle Herald chatted to Kate about her experience as a young lawyer in the mining sector.
