More than half of McCullough Robertson's Partners recognised as some of Australia's best lawyers

29 February 2016

Thirty-four Partners at leading independent law firm McCullough Robertson have been recognised as some of the best lawyers in Australia.

More than half of the firm's 50 Partners have been listed in the ninth edition of Best Lawyers, published this month.  Seven Partners were ranked in more than one area of law with Bill Morrissey listed in the Construction and Infrastructure; Defamation and Media; and Litigation categories.

Being awarded the highest gong of Lawyer of the Year were Hayden Bentley (best lawyer in Tax law) and Tim Whitney (Trusts and Estates).

Chairman Dominic McGann, who himself is recognised in the areas of Government Practice and Native Title Law, said the rankings reflected the quality that the firm delivers and its commitment to its clients.

“These rankings put us, as an independent Australian firm, up there with the big national firms.  To have so many Partners listed is a great achievement,” Mr McGann said.

“It recognises that we are doing top tier work on some of the most significant projects in Australia.

“I congratulate everyone who has been ranked this year.”

Eight McCullough Robertson Partners are new to the list this year:

  • Matt Bradbury – Construction/Infrastructure Law
  • Reece Walker – Corporate Law
  • Scott Butler – Insolvency and Reorganization law
  • Tim Case – Litigation
  • Tim Hanmore – Planning and Environmental Law
  • Alex Hutchens – Information Technology Law and Telecommunications Law
  • Brett Hawkins – Real Property Law, and
  • Samantha Daly – Planning and Environment Law.

Significantly, six of the 34 Partners listed are based in McCullough Robertson’s Sydney office.

“To have half of our Sydney Partners listed is a really positive sign for the growth of the NSW practice.  Many of those who have been listed for the first time such as Alex Hutchens and Samantha Daly have been Partners for less than three years and to have them up there with the best in their field is a real achievement,” Mr McGann said.

“It also reinforces that we are no longer just Brisbane’s largest law firm – we are a national brand, delivering top-tier work at independent firm value.”
